Empty Bowls

Each year, in January, Malvern Prep hosts a soup dinner to benefit the homeless.

Empty Bowls is a national organization that has been supporting thousands of these events worldwide since 1990. The way an Empty Bowls event works is simple. The Malvern community creates ceramic bowls and then serves a simple meal of donated soup and bread. Guests choose a bowl to use that day and to keep as a reminder that there are always “empty bowls” in the world. Additional bowls and silent auction pieces donated by students and area artists are sold at the event. All proceeds from our event are donated to Bethesda Project, an organization that works to reaffirm the dignity of our homeless brothers and sisters in Philadelphia. This is an annual event and an important piece of both our Christian Service and Arts programs. Visit our Empty Bowls blog for more information.
