Global Exchange Program

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."

Mission Statement
Malvern Prep's Global Student Exchange Program strives to:

  • Provide experiences that will help our students become global citizens and 21st century leaders
  • Provide additional diversity to our School and expose our students to students of different cultures and the world beyond.
  • Provide cultural exchange opportunities for Malvern students abroad.
  • Prepare our students for acceptance to leading colleges.

A Growing Program
Over the last several years, Malvern Prep has established partnerships with schools in Europe, Latin America and Australia. We have completed 48 exchanges with 169 students, and 50 Malvern parents have hosted a foreign student, some of them multiple times.

Malvern is working toward the expansion of its global exchange programs to serve more students and to add more locations. The School is also developing an international internship program and shorter, cultural trips with faculty chaperones over school breaks.

Host Schools
These three partner schools not only share the same Augustinian values as Malvern Prep, but also the vision of promoting global learning - Colegio San Agustin of Panama, Real Colegio Alfonso XII in San Lorenzo, Spain and St. Augustine’s College in Sydney, Australia.

Colegio San Agustin of Panama
Colegio San Agustin of Panama is a K-12, Catholic, co-ed institution that is committed to the Augustinian Recollect values of liberty, truth, peace and justice.  It instills strong family values and social awareness in its students.  The academic program is rigorous, stressing creativity, reflection, critical thinking and Christian ethics.  A bilingual program is taught at all grade levels.  The school provides opportunities for students to work in Christian service projects.  The combination of academics and service provides a well-rounded education. The school’s mission is aimed at transforming the hearts and minds of its students to meet leadership needs for the future of Panama. This exchange takes place during the summer.

Aquinas American School
Aquinas American School is a Catholic, private, co-ed school offering all levels of education, from 3 year old pre-school up to 12th grade. Founded in 2011, the school strives to provide students with an outstanding liberal arts education. Aquinas American School offers the U.S. school curriculum as well as the official Spanish program. The school is located in Pozuelo de Alarcón, in the quiet Monte Alina neighborhood, a privileged residential area bordering Mount Boadilla, a protected natural park with over 1,500 acres of pine and oak groves. We have two exchanges with this school, one in the fall and another in February.

Real Colegio Alfonso XII, San Lorenzo, Spain
Colegio Alfonso XII, one of Spain’s premier prep schools, was founded in 1875.  The school is housed in a 16th century monastery, El Escorial, built by King Philip II and located 25 miles outside of Madrid.  The site is a World Heritage Site.  The school is a co-ed, Catholic, private institution run by the Augustinians since 1885 with a total of 700 students in grades K through 12.  Its mission mirrors Malvern Prep’s, with the same emphasis on Augustinian values and academic excellence.  This exchange takes place during the school year in early spring.

St. Augustine's College – Brookvale, Sydney, Australia
St. Augustine's College – Brookvale  is a congregational Catholic school for boys.  The school is located on a 12-acre campus and current enrollment is 1,200 students. The pursuit of learning holds a central place in the life of the school. The College values intellectual development and seeks to continue the Augustinian tradition of enthusiasm for learning and love of truth. Developing practical living skills in each student and promoting complete use of their intellect is at the heart of the school’s mission.  The teachings of Jesus and the charisma of St. Augustine are the example.  The exchange takes place during the summer.

Criteria for Selection
If a student is interested in the Global Exchange Program, he must meet the following criteria:

  • be between 15 and 17 years of age.
  • have an exemplary discipline record.
  • have a solid academic record.
  • have a cultural curiosity and good social skills.

Host Families Needed for the Global Exchange Program

The success of this global exchange initiative and the international experience that our students will gain as a result largely depend on support from the Malvern community.  We are currently taking applications for potential host families. The exchange student guest will reside with the host family for the duration of the student's visit to Malvern.  If you would like more information on how to take part in this initiative, please contact Teresa Lohse.
