Malvern Prep Boathouse: A Case for Support

Over the past 20 years, Malvern Prep’s Rowing Team has developed into one of the best high school programs in the country. Now it is time to give this national and international powerhouse team a state-of-the-art training facility.

Malvern Prep’s Rowing program has enjoyed enormous success in national and international competition over the past 20 years. The rowing program teaches Malvern students that discipline and hard work are the keys to success both on the water and in the classroom. It also teaches them how to balance the demands of academics, athletics and other pursuits. Finally, the Rowing program helps Malvern students stand out when applying to college. Malvern Rowers are sought after by top colleges and universities. In fact, this program has produced more Ivy League students than any other sport in Malvern Prep’s history.

Malvern currently stores its boats and equipment in a rustic facility in Conshohocken while training on the Schuylkill River. This warehouse – which has no running water and is not close to the water - is generously leased to the school for little money; however it could be sold at any time. Although this space has served the team adequately, its distance from the water, storage conditions, lack of security and terms of usage are less than ideal.  A permanent training facility, a Malvern Prep Boat House, is needed to house and to sustain the Malvern Rowing program.
